Mitigation
In 2023, multiple disasters required state and local governments to enhance their preparedness plans to support disaster recovery and response efforts. The Maui Wildfires, Hurricane Idalia, and the Minnesota winter storm are examples of disasters that required proper planning to ensure adequate recovery.
preparedness is comprehensive, involving risk assessments, training, and developing resilient communities capable of responding to and recovering from every type of incident. Utilizing risk-based and whole-community principles, Tidal Basin can assist your communities, organizations, and critical infrastructure with the right skills and tools through planning, training and exercises, Emergency Operation Plans (EOPs), and Continuity of Operations Plans (COOPs). Disaster Preparedness Services
Planning Tidal Basin has experience developing plans for continuity and emergency operations, long-term recovery, and all-hazards mitigation. We can help you develop programs and plans to assess hazards, risks, and vulnerabilities and identify the resources needed to effectively respond and recover from any event, including natural disasters or terrorism occurences. Training and Exercises Exercises help prepare for threats and hazards, providing the means to attain, validate, and strengthen capabilities. When a disaster strikes, diverse stakeholders are required to participate in the emergency response and recovery efforts. Customized training solutions are fundamental to ensure operational success during a disaster by incorporating prior learning with interactive training modules. Tidal Basin helps ensure the information can be recalled by participants several months or even years later. Our training programs include micro-learning modules to support self-driven relearning opportunities and are directly related to the exercise programs we implement as well. Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) compliant exercises are vital to preparedness. Our HSEEP-certified and Master Exercise Practitioners develop realistic exercises that provide effective learning opportunities, and after-action reports to document strengths and challenges
and provide recommendations for future improvement. We have direct experience working through the disaster landscape and can evolve quickly based on current events. After-Action Review (AAR) An After-Action Review is a systematic, post-disaster assessment of preparedness, response, and recovery activities/efforts to outline what happened and why. The assessment reviews strengths, areas for improvement, potential best practices, and identifies mission-critical issues. AARs are crucial to help state and local governments identify areas of improvement. Items such as incident command and coordination, security and law enforcement, and investigation and intelligence are important to examine for human-made disasters, while ensuring proper plans are in place for both human-made and natural disasters for successful recovery. Program Assessments and Gap Analysis Tidal Basin provides comprehensive assessments that benchmark our clients’ readiness to national and state-based guidelines and regulations. Using best practices and lessons learned from our years of experience to determine actionable next steps, these assessments can focus on a specific hazard, a specific capability, or be used to support Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) certification. An after-action report can also be conducted to document a response to a specific incident and outline recommendations for the future.
